The Castillo
de La Fuerza also known as the Real Fortress or The Castle is
located in Havana. The fortress has been built on the ruins of
the ancient fort in 1558. The Castillo de La Fuerza was
considered as the first fortification of Havana. The Castle
closes the Plaza de Las Armas. There are other fortresses which
have been constructed to protect Havana as La Cabana fortress at
the eastern part of Havana Bay, the Castillo El Morro
constructed at the entrance of the Havana Bay, and the San
Salvador de La Punta was built opposite to the Castillo El Morro
in 1590. These fortresses have all been construction to protect
Havana against attacks. La Habana is one of the fourteen
provinces of Cuba. La Habana has all together twenty six
municipalities known as Batabano, Aguacate, Santiago de Las
Vegas, Bauta, San Antonio de Los Banos, Bejucal, Marianao,
Caimito del Guayabal, Quivican, Melena del Sur, Guanabacoa,
Guines, Santa Maria del Rosario, Isla de Pinos Guira de Melena,
La Salud, La Habana, Jaruco, Alquizar, Madruga, Nueva Paz, Regla,
San Antonio de Las Vegas, San José de Las Lajas, San Nicolas and
Santa Cruz del Norte. Havana is also the capital city of Cuba
and has a large of population which is over 1.2 million. |
