Here on the
right side of this picture you can see a Cuban flag. This
picture has been taken in Havana. The Cuban flag has been
declared as official flag of Cuba in May 1902. The flag of Cuba
was suggested by Miguel Teurbe Tolon who was a poet but the
ideas come from Narcisco Lopez. The flag of Cuba consist of
three horizontal blue stripes representing the sea surrounding
Cuba; there is two horizontal white stripes between the blue
stripes which is the symbol of purity and justice. On the left
side there is a red triangle symbol of the blood spilled by the
revolutionaries to free the Cuban nation and on it a white star
representing independence. The Cuban flag has been designed
after the flag of the US. The very first flag of Cuba was
designed by Narciso Lopez a Venezuelan general in 1848, he
wanted to help Cuba from the rule of Spain but it was not
successful. It was only on the 20 May of 1902 that the flag has
been declared as the official flag of Cuba and until today it is
the same flag that floats. Before Lopez there were other flags
which has been designed as in 1810 from Joaquin Infante, the
Sun’s flag in 1823, in 1847 the Club de La Habana flag, in 1868
the flag designed the Father of Cuba, Manuel de Cespedes. |
