The Teatro
Garcia Lorca is a theatre located in Havana, Cuba. The building
of the theatre is near to the El Capitolio, houses of the
Academy of Sciences. The theatre is also known as the El Gran
Teatro de la Habana. The construction of the theatre was made
between 1837 and 1838. The first event that took place in the
Teatro Garcia Lorca was in November 1838. The El Gran Teatro de
la Habana can receive over five hundred visitors. Federico
Garcia Lorca was born in Fuente Vanqueros, Granada, on the 5
June 1898 and was known as dramatist, poet, pianist, a composer
and also as a painter. Federico Garcia Lorca was very talented
even he was not the best at school. When his family moved to
Andalusia he got more contact to the local artists. In 1918 was
published his first collection, Impresiones y paisajes but it
did not get a big success in commerce. In 1919 he went to Madrid
to the Residencia de Estudiantes (Student Residence), which is
an original cultural center in Madrid and was founded in 1910.
The Spanish artists went to the Residence to lecture and to
study. In university Federico Garcia Lorca had as friend the
famous artist Salvator Dali and also Luis Bunuel. Garcia Lorca
was killed on 19 August 1936 by nationalist partisans when the
Spanish Civil War started, he was aged thirty eight when he
died. |
