On the above
picture you can observe a banana plantation in Holguin. Holguin
is one of the fourteen provinces of Cuba. As it can be seen on
the picture the banana plants in this plantation in Holguin are
quite small and need some time to grow and give some bananas. In
Cuba the bananas are produced for local use and for exportation
to different part of the world. Banana plantation exist since
very long time ago, it has been found in two hundred AD in China
already. In Palestine bananas have been brought in six hundred
fifty AD by Islamic conquerors. The origin of the word banana is
from West Africa and then was used in English through Spanish.
Banana plantations were seen in the fifteenth and sixteenth
century in Western Africa, Atlantic Islands and Brazil. At this
period banana was not popular in Europe. Bananas can be eaten
when they are ripe but also cooked when are still green. Bananas
may have different colours and sizes. India is one of countries
which produce the more bananas in the world. Other countries
that have a lot of banana productions are Brazil, Indonesia,
Mexico, Thailand, China, Colombia, Costa Rica and Philippines. |
