The Botanical garden of Viňales,
Jardin de Caridad, province of Pinar del Rio, Pinar for the
locals, is a must for all the visitors to this region. Situated
at the northeast end of Vinales Village towards Puerto de
Esperanza, its luxuriant tropical vegetation appears to be there
for ages. Palm trees, fruit trees, ornamental ferns, mosses,
creepers and other tropical plants, all have their place.
Smaller plants reach out for the sunbeams as the shrubs are
perfectly at ease at the foot of the tall trees. The different
varieties of creeper have a particular function. The climbing
plants embellish the trunk with their infinite swirling around
the trees to their roots; all of them are trying to reach out
for the grounds. With such an arrangement of trees, plants,
fern, shrubs and flowers, the picture seem to have emerged from
the brush of an artist with a perfect match of shades and
lights. Under the canopy of the trees, scents and aromas of the
tropics, the Botanical garden of Vinales remains a peaceful
oasis or a tiny jungle amidst civilisation for the traveller who
